2021 Calendar – March

Many of my photos come from Utah’s five national parks, including March’s 2021 calendar photo. This image is from an alternative viewpoint of “Angels Landing,” just beyond the junction for the trail which actually climbs the formation.

Angels Landing is aptly named – when some of the original park rangers were surveying Zion’s cliffs, one noted this particular fin and said only an angel could get there. But some years later, in a time when man was more willing to leave his mark upon the land, a trail was literally carved into the mountain which enabled (reasonably fit) visitors to reach this location.

The hike is not for the feint of heart, for once the hiker embarks on the fin, there are drop offs of thousands of feet on either side. The climb is so risky that chains have been installed in the rock for climbers to hold onto. The view from the top is, however, astounding.
