White Pocket - Vermilion Cliffs

White Pocket is a large rock formation just south of "The Wave" in the Vermillion Cliffs (https://www.blm.gov/national.../arizona/vermilion-cliffs) area of southern Utah and northern Arizona. It's a combination of our favorites - biscuits and bacon rocks (you can see those in the photo), aka Christmas ribbon candy.

Watkins Glenn State Park

Challenge: name a wild state park you can get to from a city street. Answer: Watkins Glen State Park, in Central New York State. Parking is in a small lot just around the corner from historic Watkins Glen, yet in a moment the hustle and bustle of this little town melts away. As you ascend the glen, you'll be amazed at the power of water. I love Watkins Glen and its cousin, Taughannock Falls State Park, because they have the towering walls of Utah's canyons, but offer an amazing display of greenery, from luscious ferns to gorgeous trees.

Zion National Park

Zion National Park is located in arid Southern Utah. With tall, rocky cathedrals stretching as high as you can see, and narrow slot canyons carved by the Virgin River, it's no wonder it's one of the most densely packed national parks in the United States.

Hawaii

Everyone should visit Hawaii, but you can't visit just once. Each island has its own unique attractions - Oahu with Pearl Harbor and bustling metro; Ohau with its towering Haleakala mountain, and Kauai... Nah, don't worry about Kauai. Leave that one for me, LOL.

Snow Canyon State Park

God created Zion National Park so I could have Snow Canyon State Park (almost) all to myself. True fact. Nestled into the Red Cliffs Preserve, Snow Canyon offers an amazing variety of kid-friendly trails to hike and explore, weaving through red rock features and steep canyon walls. Come and take a look at its diversity with me!

Robert Treman State Park

Robert H. Treman State Park is an area of wild beauty, with the rugged gorge called Enfield Glen as its scenic highlight. Winding trails follow the gorge past 12 waterfalls, including the 115-foot Lucifer Falls, to where visitors can see a mile-and-a-half down the wooded gorge as it winds its way to the lower park.

Panoramas

Landscapes can stretch for miles in both directions, and sometimes 4x3 just can't convey the feeling of being inside the landscape. So here is a collection of my best panoramic images. Stretch your imagination and join me on some of my best landscape experiences.

Moab Utah

Moab, UT is home to multiple national and state parks. Its arid climate belies the fact that the Colorado River has carved massive canyons throughout the region. Home to red rock, called "slick rock" because horses struggled to gain purchase on the surface, Moab is a 4x4 and mountain biking heaven.

Death Vally National Park

Hottest place in the United States, but trust me... Visit Death Valley National Park in January and you'd better be prepared for high daytime temps but frigid nighttime cold.

The Wave - Coyote Buttes

If there's an iconic spot in the desert Southwest, it has to be Coyote Butte's "The Wave". Layers of sand, compressed by time and weight, have been carved into swirls of color and texture. The hike is not for the faint-of-heart, as it is long, hot, and arid, but the views reward the well-prepared.

Southwestern Landscapes

The Southwest isn't just Moab and Zion - amazing vistas and landscapes are pretty much everywhere. This gallery is a collection from several of the best locations.

French Polynesia - Tahiti

Little-known secret: French Polynesia's gem, Tahiti, is only two hours further from the US by plane than Hawaii. You're welcome - trust me, you'll thank me later. Beautiful beaches, generous people, and Polynesian culture await the traveler who is willing to go the extra 120 minutes.

India

India - a land of contradiction, juxtaposition, imposition, and yet splendor, generosity, and delight. I've traveled India extensively and have found incredible people, amazing landscapes, and quiet solitude as well as bustling metropolitan areas.

Taughannock Falls State Park

The tallest waterfall east of the Mississippi can be found near the quaint village of Trumansburg, New York. Nestled in Central New York's Finger Lakes region, this park's main attraction can distract from the area's overall beauty. Beautiful hikes among towering deciduous trees greet the visitor who is willing to go beyond the visitor's center and overlook.

Alaska 2022

Alaska is truly a place of land, sea, mountain and animals! From grizzly bears to humpback whales, a trip to the "Last Frontier" presents the visitor a life that's almost completely outdoors.
